obx part one

after a lovely thirteen hour drive, amanda and i made it to the outer banks to join my family at our rented vacation home in duck, called, fittingly, “the quack shack.” here are some pictures from yesterday, including the gorgeous great room of the house, people hanging out on the beach, and of course (in the gilbert family tradition of obnoxiousness and illegality on vacation) fireworks.

it really is nice to get away from disney for a few days, especially with my (very special) family.

playing with lenses

i’ve been considering getting some new lenses for my camera, and i’m really interested in a 50mm lens. i recently found the wonderful borrowlenses.com, and decided to rent a canon 50mm f/1.4 lens for my upcoming family vacation to the outer banks. i got to play around with it a little yesterday…itty glamour shots! our cats are such hams in front of the camera.

and then jessica and i played with sparklers for a little while just to get out of the living room…it is definitely a fun and easy way to waste some time at night here, and a fun experiment with my camera.

the 50mm is also looking like its going to be pretty awesome for taking videos with my 7d, so look out for some clips in the future!
