did you get engaged recently? CONGRATULATIONS!! this is going to be one of the most wonderful exciting, and let’s admit it – possibly frustrating – times in your life, and you have a lot to think about.
if you’re reading this, someone has sent you my way – maybe they know me, maybe i took their wedding photos – or you found me somewhere else on the web. either way, i’m so excited that you’re interested in possibly working with me to capture such an important day in your life. obviously, choosing your wedding photographer is a huge step for many couples – if photography is one of your priorities for your wedding day, you want to make sure to choose a photographer who has a style of photography that you like, and who you think you’ll get along with personality-wise. A lot of couples don’t consider personality when booking their wedding photographer, but you have to remember that you’ll probably be spending more time with your photographer than with your new spouse during your wedding day! no one wants to spent eight or nine hours with someone they don’t get along with.
so, if you’re planning your wedding, and you’re considering me as your photographer, the rest of this post is for you.
if you’re still reading this, you probably want to know a little bit about me, and about the services that i offer. i’ll go over some quick facts about myself, though i won’t bore you with a full biography, and then i’ll talk about what i do and how you can get to know my work a bit better. at the end of this post, i’ll also share some of my favorite resources for couples planning their wedding!
about emily
alright…on to the about me. i’m emily gilbert, thus e. gilbert photography. i’ve been in business since 2010, when i shot my first wedding! i also have my bachelor’s degree in photography, if that’s the sort of thing that concerns you (to some people it’s important, and to other people it couldn’t matter less). besides taking photos, i love cooking & baking, reading (i try to read 52 books every year & i’m addicted to goodreads), cute animals (you may see instagram posts of my pets from time to time), and lots & lots of nerdy things (thus my affinity for nerd-inspired touches at weddings). my favorite part of being a photographer is showing off people’s real personalities, the real-life ways they show affection…i think that’s the reason i love personalized weddings so much – i love when couples aren’t afraid to break the mold and show of their mutual interests on one of the biggest days of their lives.
if you want to know more about me, there’s always the ‘about me’ page on my website to check out. you can also feel free to send me an email – hello@emilyrgilbert.com – i’m more than happy to talk about anything you’d like!
what i do
clearly, if you’ve made it this far, you know that i’m a wedding & portrait photographer. i love taking photos of all weddings, but i like to say that i specialize in vintage, nerdy, kitschy, and quirky weddings. what i really mean by that is weddings with personality, and lots of it!
if you’re interested in my full wedding investment information, please get in touch – i’ll be happy to get you the full information. for now, though, here are the highlights:
- weddings start at $2250
- all weddings include a complimentary engagement session so we can get to know each other
- every single wedding includes all of your images, in high-res seized for print, plus copies already formatted for online sharing!
the best way to get a good understanding of what my wedding photography is like isn’t for me to describe it to you – instead, i’d recommend checking out my recent blog posts on weddings to get a better idea. you could go right to the main weddings category on the blog and see if anything catches your eye, but if you have any idea about what type of wedding you’re aiming to have, it might help to look at a specific wedding that’s similar to your plans. here are a few suggestions:
- considering a disney fairytale wedding? check out danielle & chris’s nautical boardwalk wedding here, or kelly & chris’s up inspired wedding
- thinking of a unique venue or lots of nerdy touches? melissa & brian had a harry potter inspired elopement, and here is juliana & glenn’s geeky wedding
- love intimate weddings with vintage touches? check out britni & joe’s downtown orlando wedding, or aly & tim’s vintage beach wedding here
- having a destination wedding? take a peek at jessica & curtis’s caribbean wedding cruise here
- classic country club weddings more your style? there’s justine & dan’s winter park wedding, and here is steph & gene’s modern golf course wedding,
you can also see tons of images from engagement sessions & weddings over on my portfolio. if you’d like to see a sample of a full wedding proofing gallery that i send out to my couples when their proofs are ready, please send me an email – i’d love for you to be able to see a true example of exactly what i shoot at a wedding.
planning resources
obviously planning your wedding is a pretty big deal. you have a lot of decisions to make, and maybe less time to do it than you’d like. even if you don’t end up choosing me to be your wedding photographer, i’d still love to offer you some links to my favorite wedding planning resources to get you started!
a practical wedding & offbeat bride are both blogs that i can not recommend highly enough – they offer thoughtful & thought provoking advice and discussions on every aspect of wedding planning that can be applied to any wedding, no matter your budget, theme, or guest count.
working on a budget? broke ass bride has tons of helpful tips on not breaking the bank, no matter how small or large your budget, plus lots of fun tips on things you didn’t know existed – diy uplighting for your reception? how awesome!
rock n roll bride is amazing for inspiration! they share some truly stunning & unique weddings – if you’re looking for something a little bit different, but still glamorous and swoon worthy, definitely check them out.
when geeks wed is another personal favorite blog, and if you’re looking for ways to include any of your fandoms in your big day, they’ll have plenty of inspiration for you to browse, whether you’re looking for harry potter, disney, horror movies, or even world of warcraft!
i’m also a pretty big proponent of the wonders of pinterest. some bloggers think that it can overwhelm brides with ideas that aren’t within the scope of achievement for their own weddings, and that it can also contribute to “cookie cutter” weddings. while that is possible, it’s definitely a fabulous resource for gorgeous wedding inspiration – you can find a color palette that’s perfect for your wedding, see how fantastic mix and match bridesmaids dresses look in real life, and narrow down what types of bouquets you actually like, all from the comfort of your own living room or home office. if you don’t have an account yet, i’d at least sign up and check it out – if you don’t like it, no harm done. if you do have an account, you can follow my boards here to see what wedding photos i pin! overwhelmed? start with my handy ideas for weddings board and work your way up from there. 🙂
if you’re interested in hearing about other local vendors that i recommend, i’d be happy to email you a list – anything from planners & coordinators to dj’s and where to source gorgeous umbrellas for those rainy florida afternoons! if you do decide to work with me on your wedding, i’ll send you my vendor list along with some more information on engagement sessions & why they’re important, plus a handy timeline to help with all of your planning.
one last thing! if you’re interested in receiving the occasional email newsletter from me, which is also how i send out information about special discounts & offers i’m running before i share them anywhere else, click here to sign up! i promise i won’t spam you. 🙂
congratulations on your engagement again, and thanks for taking the time to read all of this! hopefully it will help you with your wedding planning, if even only a little bit! remember, if you have any questions at all, or anything that you’d like to talk about, please feel free to reach out and contact me – i’m always available at hello@emilyrgilbert.com. happy planning!
